Ameren Missouri Urges Homeowners to Clear Snow and Ice From Natural Gas Equipment After Winter Storm

After winter storms, snow and ice buildup can create serious safety concerns for homes that use natural gas. Ameren Missouri is reminding residents to take a few important steps to help ensure natural gas equipment continues to operate safely.

Snow and ice can damage outdoor natural gas equipment or block vents, potentially leading to unsafe levels of natural gas or carbon monoxide inside the home. These hazards are preventable with simple post-storm maintenance.

Homeowners are encouraged to carefully clear snow and ice away from gas meters, pipes, exhaust vents, and appliance vents after every winter weather event. Keeping these areas clear helps ensure proper airflow and reduces the risk of equipment malfunction or dangerous gas buildup.

Ameren Missouri also reminds residents to never use sharp objects to remove ice from gas equipment and to contact their utility provider if damage is suspected.
