The St. Francois County Health Center is encouraging community members to check whether they are due for a pneumonia (pneumococcal) vaccine. Vaccines are available at the Health Center for both insured and uninsured individuals.
Pneumococcal disease can cause serious infections such as pneumonia, bloodstream infections, and meningitis. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent severe illness, especially among older adults, young children, and individuals with certain health conditions.
The pneumonia vaccine helps protect against common strains of pneumococcal bacteria and is recommended for adults age 65 and older, as well as younger individuals with specific risk factors. Health Center staff can help determine eligibility and answer questions about recommended vaccines.
Residents are encouraged to contact the St. Francois County Health Center to see if they are due for a pneumonia vaccine and to schedule an appointment.
