Park Hills - Leadington Chamber of Commerce Endorses Prop U

The Park Hills - Leadington Chamber of Commerce has announced its official endorsement of Proposition U, the local use tax proposal that will appear on the April 7, 2026 ballot in the City of Park Hills.

The Chamber’s endorsement reflects its commitment to supporting local businesses and promoting a strong, sustainable local economy. As shopping habits continue to shift toward online and out-of-state purchases, Proposition U addresses an important issue facing local retailers and service providers.

“When Park Hills residents shop locally, they pay the City’s 3 percent sales tax. When those same purchases are made from out-of-state sellers who do not collect local tax, local businesses are placed at a disadvantage,” said Tamara Coleman, Executive Director of the Park Hills - Leadington Chamber of Commerce. “Proposition U helps level the playing field by applying the same local tax rate to qualifying out-of-state purchases.”

The Chamber emphasizes that Proposition U does not create an additional tax burden on local purchases. Instead, it modernizes how local revenue is collected so that local businesses are not penalized simply for operating within the community.

In addition to supporting fair competition, the Chamber notes that use tax revenue would benefit the City of Park Hills as a whole. Funds generated through Proposition U could be reinvested into essential services and infrastructure such as public safety, streets, parks, and other core City operations that support residents, businesses, and future economic growth.

“Strong local businesses and a strong City go hand in hand,” Coleman said. “When revenue is collected fairly and reinvested locally, it supports the quality of life and economic vitality that make Park Hills a great place to live, work, and do business.”

The Park Hills - Leadington Chamber of Commerce encourages residents to learn more about Proposition U ahead of the April 7, 2026 election and appreciates the City’s efforts to educate voters on this important issue.
