Rotary is dedicated to causes which build international relationships,
improve lives, and create a better world. Each year local clubs, such as the
St. Francois Co. Rotary Club, recognize non-member individuals who
represent the ideals of Rotary within their respective communities. These
are people who get personally involved with making their community a
better place for all its inhabitants.
Tonight, we honor such an individual. There are few people in our area
who have touched more lives than our recipient. His commitment and
involvement can be seen in every corner of St. Francois County. A man
whose integrity, honesty and genuine kindness provide a model for each of
us to aspire; a man who always has a smile on his face, an unrelenting
positive attitude, and a genuine kindness for everyone. I am confident
EVERY attendee this evening has been affected or influenced by this
person. His involvement in our region is felt by everyone. The list of his
attributes is extensive, but I will limit it to the following five:
Nearly two decades of service to our own Mineral Area College as a
trustee,
Over three decades of service on the Central School Board,
Countless hours and miles delivering meals on wheels,
Many, many exciting moments in front of a microphone with play-by-
play coverage of countless high school athletics,
And a key individual in successful philanthropy efforts of the Park
Hills Lions Club.
I could go on and on, but you get the idea.
The St. Francois County Rotary Club proudly presents our “Service Above
Self” Award to Mr. Harvey Faircloth.
