Good evening everyone!!!
Tonight, we gather to honor a lifetime defined by trust, service, and unwavering commitment to community. The Lifetime Contribution Award recognizes individuals whose work has not only shaped their profession, but whose character and consistency have strengthened the very fabric of the community they serve.
This year’s recipient has played an important role in the business community of Park Hills for more than four decades. His story is one rooted in dedication, relationships, and a belief that doing the right thing, day in and day out, truly matters.
Bill Bess is a proud graduate of Central High School and went on to attend the University of Missouri. Early on, he showed determination and drive, including a brief but memorable experience with the Atlanta Falcons. While that chapter was exciting, his heart ultimately led him back home to Flat River, where his lifelong impact would truly take shape.
In 1979, Bill returned to the area and began working for the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company. Just a few years later, in 1982, he took a leap of faith and joined American Family Insurance as a part time agent, working out of his home on Third Street. It was a humble beginning, but one built on hard work, trust, and a genuine desire to serve others.
In 1984, when his friend Bill Schafer accepted a management position, the opportunity opened for Bill to step into his role full time. From that moment forward, he committed himself fully to his clients and his community. Eventually, he purchased the former 7 Eleven and laundromat building from Kinch Jones, establishing his office at 907 East Main Street. That location would serve as a cornerstone of his business for the next thirty five years.
Bill’s approach to business was never complicated. His plan was simple and powerful. Provide good customer service. Treat people with respect. Be dependable. Be honest. That philosophy earned him not only professional success, but also the trust of generations of families and business owners throughout Park Hills and St. Francois County.
Over more than forty years as an American Family Insurance agent, Bill provided far more than policies. He offered guidance during life’s biggest decisions, reassurance during difficult moments, and peace of mind through every chapter of life. His professionalism, kindness, and integrity made him a leader in the insurance industry and earned him numerous awards along the way, but perhaps more importantly, they earned him lasting relationships and deep respect.
Behind this remarkable career is a strong and supportive family. Bill shares his life with his wife, Donna, who has been a constant source of encouragement and partnership. Since retiring, Bill enjoys spending time hunting, traveling to sunny destinations with Donna, and most of all, being entertained by his seven young grandchildren, who bring joy, laughter, and energy to every day.
As we reflect on a lifetime of service, leadership, and commitment, it is clear that Bill Bess has left an enduring mark on this community. His career stands as a testament to the power of trust, consistency, and genuine care for others.
In recognition of a lifetime commitment to community support, trust, and service; for more than forty years of dedicated service as an American Family Insurance agent in Park Hills and St. Francois County; for protecting families, businesses, and dreams with integrity and professionalism; and for being a steadfast presence whose work strengthened the fabric of our region, we proudly present the Lifetime Contribution Award to Bill Bess!!!
Please join me in congratulating and thanking Bill Bess for a remarkable career and a profound impact on St. Francois County!!!
