Calling all donors! The St. Francois County Rotary Club and the American Red Cross will be holding a blood drive on Tuesday, October 29 at the Centene Center in Farmington.
The need for blood is constant. Every day, patients are helped by donors who give at blood drives coordinated by generous volunteers. Below are just a few examples of patients Red Cross blood drive coordinators recently may have helped:
- A trauma patient needed 66 units of red blood cells, eight units of platelets and 112 units of plasma.
- A heart patient was given more than 60 units of red blood cells.
- A two-year-old boy received several units of red blood cells, platelets and plasma to help ward off bacterial meningitis.
- A liver transplant patient required transfusions of red blood cells.
- A heart surgery patient required 150 units of cryoprecipitate.
