Mineral Area Council on the Arts is bringing Sharon Bebout Carr to the Fine Arts Theater on Mineral Area College’s Park Hills campus for a one-woman show, “The Kitchen Table.” The performance is set for 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12.
Tickets are $5 and may be purchased online via Eventbrite.com, at the Mineral Area College Bookstore, and at the door.
Carr is a coal miner's daughter who grew up in the hills of western Kentucky. Stories and a love for the written word have always been a part of her life, and she said she remembers listening to her father tell stories about his nights underground in the coal mines.
“Before I could read, daddy would read to me from his favorite authors--Kipling, Tolstoy, Shakespeare,” she said. “Those moments with my father are indelibly woven into my life and into the way I approach both writing and performance.”
Centered around the experiences of a coal mining family, "The Kitchen Table" is an original one-person show about identity, family, memory and loss. The kitchen table serves as a locus from which stories emerge, relationships form and transform, and meaning is created.
