Belgrade State Bank Celebrates 120 Years of Community Banking Excellence
Belgrade, Missouri — June 6, 2026 — Belgrade State Bank (BSB) proudly announces the celebration of its 120th anniversary, marking more than a century of dedicated service, local leadership, and unwavering commitment to the communities of
Washington and St. Francois Counties.
Founded on June 6, 1906 by John G. Walton, Ed Walton, and W. W. Turner, Belgrade
State Bank began as a small, community-focused institution built on trust, relationships,
and a vision for supporting local families and businesses. That legacy has been carried
forward through generations of the Turner family, each contributing to the bank’s steady
growth and deep community roots.
The bank’s early expansion included the addition of its Caledonia branch in 1974 under
the leadership of Merlyn E. Turner and Harold E. Turner Executive Vice President, who
continued the founding mission of relationship-driven banking. Stories from that era
reflect a time when business was conducted with a handshake and a promise—values
that still shape the bank’s culture today.
Under Harold and Carol Turner’s leadership, Belgrade State Bank experienced
significant growth, expanding its footprint with new locations in Potosi (1986), Desloge
(1997), Farmington (2001), and a Potosi drive-up facility (2004). In 2009, the
Farmington branch was renovated to include a second story and the addition of Wise
Grounds, a unique in-house coffee shop that reflects the bank’s commitment to
community connection.
Today, Belgrade State Bank remains family-led, with Carol Turner as Chairman of the
Board, Jonathan E. Turner as President and CEO, and Julie Loughary as Executive
Vice President. The leadership team includes multiple generations of the Turner family,
supported by a dedicated board of directors committed to preserving the bank’s legacy
while guiding its future.
“Reaching 120 years is a testament to the trust our customers place in us and the
dedication of our employees,” said Jon Turner. “We are proud to be a locally owned
bank that makes local decisions, reinvests in our communities, and helps our customers
achieve their financial goals.”
As part of the anniversary celebration, Belgrade State Bank is inviting customers,
neighbors, and community members to share their personal memories and stories
involving the bank. Submissions can be made by visiting belgradestatebank.com/memories
These stories will help commemorate the bank’s lasting impact across generations. The collection of memories will be published on the bank’s website.
Belgrade State Bank continues to distinguish itself through its community-first approach.
With local processing and decision-making, customer deposits are reinvested directly
into the surrounding communities, strengthening the regional economy. Employees
actively serve on civic and nonprofit boards, and the bank regularly supports schools,
churches, and local initiatives.
As a full-service financial institution, BSB offers a comprehensive range of personal and
business banking services, including checking and savings accounts, lending,
investments, and specialized business financing such as SBA loans—services not
widely available elsewhere in the region.
Looking ahead, Belgrade State Bank remains committed to blending its tradition of
hometown hospitality with forward-thinking innovation. Customers can expect continued
advancements in digital banking services while still enjoying the personal touch that
defines the BSB experience—from familiar faces in the lobby to after-hours support
provided by the same trusted team.
“Our guiding principle remains unchanged,” added Turner. “We strive to be the financial
leader through our commitment to customer service, technology, and our team
members.”
As Belgrade State Bank celebrates this milestone anniversary, it reaffirms its promise to
serve as a trusted financial partner for generations to come.
