Park Hills–Leadington and Farmington Regional Chambers join SMTS in celebrating a major investment in transportation services and community accessibility.

Southeast Missouri Transportation Service, Inc. (SMTS) celebrated an exciting milestone on Thursday, October 22, 2026, with the official grand opening and ribbon cutting of its newly renovated St. Francois County facility, located at 3343 Commonwealth Drive in Park Hills.

The celebration was hosted jointly by the Park Hills–Leadington Chamber of Commerce and the Farmington Regional Chamber of Commerce, bringing together Chamber representatives, community leaders, SMTS employees, and supporters to recognize the organization's continued investment in the region.

The new facility represents a significant advancement for SMTS and its mission to provide safe, reliable, and accessible transportation to residents throughout Southeast Missouri.

A New Home for Growing Transportation Needs

For years, SMTS managed its St. Francois County operations from leased office space in Farmington, with vehicles housed at separate locations. As transportation needs increased, the organization recognized the importance of establishing a larger, more efficient, and centralized facility.

The new Park Hills location, formerly home to a Missouri State Highway Patrol facility, underwent extensive renovations and improvements to accommodate the organization's growing operational needs.

The upgraded facility features expanded administrative offices, a spacious employee training room, dedicated driver facilities, light vehicle maintenance areas, and secured, covered parking for the SMTS fleet.

By bringing employees, vehicles, training, and maintenance operations together at one location, SMTS can improve operational efficiency, enhance vehicle security, and better support the drivers and staff who serve residents throughout St. Francois County.

The project also represents a substantial investment in the Park Hills community, transforming an existing property into a functional transportation hub that will serve the region for years to come.

Connecting Communities Through Transportation

Founded in 1973, Southeast Missouri Transportation Service is a nonprofit organization dedicated to meeting the transportation needs of residents throughout Southeast Missouri.

Operating across 21 counties, SMTS provides an essential service to individuals who may otherwise face challenges accessing reliable transportation.

The organization's services help residents travel to medical appointments, grocery stores, shopping destinations, social activities, and other important appointments and everyday destinations.

SMTS is particularly valuable to older adults, individuals with disabilities, and residents without access to personal vehicles. However, its public transportation services are not limited to these populations. Transportation is available to individuals of varying ages and circumstances, helping make mobility and independence possible for more people throughout the region.

For many residents, dependable transportation means more than simply getting from one place to another. It provides access to healthcare, essential services, social connections, and opportunities that contribute to a better quality of life.

The organization's commitment to accessible, door-to-door transportation helps eliminate barriers and connects individuals to the resources and services they need.

Investing in the Future of St. Francois County

The completion of the new facility demonstrates SMTS's long-term commitment to serving St. Francois County and surrounding communities.

With expanded operational capabilities, improved training accommodations, and centralized vehicle facilities, the organization is better positioned to maintain and strengthen the transportation services on which so many area residents depend.

During the ribbon cutting celebration, SMTS Executive Director Tracy Jones recognized the individuals and organizations whose contributions helped make the project possible.

The ceremony also included recognition of retired SMTS employee Denny Ward for his significant involvement in the project's early planning and development.

Representatives of the Park Hills–Leadington and Farmington Regional Chambers joined SMTS leadership and employees for the ceremonial ribbon cutting, followed by an opportunity for guests to tour the renovated facility and learn more about its operations.

The joint celebration highlighted the importance of regional partnerships and the shared commitment of both Chambers to supporting organizations that positively impact the communities they serve.

Celebrating Community Growth and Partnership

The Park Hills–Leadington Chamber of Commerce congratulates SMTS on this important achievement and welcomes the organization's expanded presence in Park Hills.

Investments such as this strengthen the local community while supporting essential services that benefit residents, businesses, and families throughout the region.

The Chamber also extends its appreciation to the Farmington Regional Chamber of Commerce for partnering in the celebration and recognizes the SMTS leadership, employees, and project partners whose dedication brought this facility to completion.

The new location marks an exciting chapter for SMTS as it continues its mission of connecting people, supporting independence, and keeping Southeast Missouri moving.
