About
East Missouri Action Agency, Inc. (EMAA) is a nonprofit community action agency dedicated to cultivating communities of opportunity and supporting people in reaching their highest potential. Established in 1965, EMAA provides programs and resources that help individuals and families overcome economic challenges, build stability, and work toward long-term success.
Community Services connects qualifying households with emergency assistance, energy assistance through LIHEAP, family support, referrals, community outreach and self-help programs. EMAA’s Weatherization Assistance Program helps eligible residents reduce home energy costs while creating healthier, safer and more comfortable living environments.
EMAA also operates Head Start programs that provide early childhood education, health screenings, nutritious meals and family support. Eleven centers offer full-day services to children and families throughout the agency’s service area.
Additional programs include Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance, housing rehabilitation, affordable housing development through New Foundations and women’s wellness services. The Women’s Wellness Center provides preventive and reproductive health services, screenings, physical examinations and related education and referrals.
EMAA primarily serves Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Iron, Madison, Perry, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve and Washington counties. Through collaborative programs and community partnerships, the agency serves more than 18,000 individuals annually.
