About

Conveniently located at the crossroads of U.S. Highway 67 and Missouri Highway 32, the City of Leadington combines small-town charm with excellent access to surrounding communities, businesses and regional attractions.

Leadington developed in the early 1900s as the Federal Lead Company and its employees established homes near the area’s growing lead-mining operations. The City was officially incorporated in August 1959 and remains proud of its connection to the Mineral Area’s rich mining heritage.

Today, Leadington is a close-knit community of approximately 780 residents and more than 90 small and large businesses. Its strategic location makes the City an important hub for commerce and transportation, with thousands of cars and trucks traveling through the community each day. Leadington is located approximately four miles north of Farmington and 60 miles south of St. Louis.

The City provides essential municipal services and resources for residents and businesses, including local government administration, street services, police protection, and fire protection. The City of Leadington also manages the peaceful Leadington Cemetery and provides cemetery guidelines and assistance to families when needed.

Leadington offers convenient access to shopping, dining, education, healthcare, recreation and employment opportunities throughout St. Francois County. Its proximity to Park Hills, Farmington, Mineral Area College, St. Joe State Park and U.S. Highway 67 makes it an attractive place to live, work, operate a business and invest in the future.

With hometown values, a welcoming atmosphere and strong opportunities for continued growth, Leadington is a small city with big potential—working together for a better tomorrow.
