POSITION TITLE: General Manager/ Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer

SUPERVISED BY: Board of Directors President, representing Board of Directors

POSITION STATUS: At will, Full Time

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

POSITION PURPOSE: The General Manager, etc., serves as the organization’s chief executive, operating on behalf of the Board of Director.  The General Manager, etc., drives implementation of the board’s strategic vision and mission to serve adults with disabilities, ensures fiscal and operational soundness, provides leadership for staff and employees, manages stakeholder relationships, and ensures compliance with legal and ethical requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Develop and articulate a clear vision to direct the organization’s business and operational goals and objectives.
  • Lead strategic plan process and align the plan with the mission, operational goals, and government contract requirements
Financial Management, Sustainability & Growth—With Board oversight
  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Explore diverse revenue streams, including income-generating activities through customer contracts, government grants, and private grants.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with input from the production staff.
  • Monitor trends for new income opportunities.
Employee and Team Development
  • Lead, manage, and develop a diverse team with employees and staff, including individuals with disabilities.
  • Foster an inclusive, empowering, and productive work environment.
  • Cultivate a strong organizational culture.
  • Attract, develop, and retain talent aligned with the organization’s goals
  • Establish impact measurement and evaluation systems
Compliance and Risk Management
  • Ensure adherence to government contract terms, legal regulations, and ethical guidelines.
  • Implement risk management strategies, including the creation of safety programs and committees.
Improve Stakeholder Engagement and Communication by
  • Building and maintaining relationships with customers, current and prospective funders, partners, networks, and high-priority stakeholders, including the St. Francois County Board for the Developmentally Disabled (Senate Bill-40 Board), Missouri Association of Sheltered Workshop Managers, Sheltered Workshop Insurance of Missouri (SWIM), and Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Executing marketing and outreach strategies.
  • Effectively communicating achievements, challenges, and value propositions.
  • Exhibiting professionalism as a representative of the board of directors, employees, staff, and the industry.
Operational Efficiency and Innovation
  • Review operational efficiency and develop processes for innovation.
  • Track and document areas of improvement.
Advocacy and Policy Influence
  • Attend conferences and events designed to advocate for sheltered workshops throughout the state.
  • Leverage results and lessons learned to influence organizational policy and practice.
Board of Directors Leadership and Governance
  • Maintain a transparent relationship with the Board.
  • Provide comprehensive information for decision-making.
  • Guide the board’s strategic direction and ensure alignment with the organization’s mission.
  • Facilitate board engagement and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate for appropriate governance policy development and implementation.
  • Serve as Board Secretary and custodian of corporate records.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Maintaining a consistent presence in the office is essential to demonstrate solidarity with non-exempt employees and to maintain a cohesive work environment.  While the general manager, etc., establishes their work hours, visibility and adherence to a common schedule are vital for fostering a sense of unity and ensuring that board members, customers, and other stakeholders have consistent access to engage.
 
REQUIREMENTS: A combination of education and experience usually represented by a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field with at least three (3) years of management and/or administrative experience, or a high school diploma with five (5) years of management and/or administrative experience in a business field.  Must be able to work with adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities in a community-based employment capacity.  Strong verbal and communication skills are needed.  Must be able to set a positive example and direct all levels of staff in their respective job assignments.  The final job offer is contingent on passing a background check and drug test.
