North St. Francois County R-1 Adult Education & Literacy (AEL) provides free educational opportunities for adults who want to strengthen their academic skills, earn a high school equivalency credential, prepare for employment, or continue their education.

Certified instructors assess each student’s current skill levels and provide individualized and group instruction in language arts, reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. Students receive the preparation and support needed to take Missouri’s approved HiSET or GED high school equivalency examination.

The program also helps adult learners improve literacy, workplace readiness, digital skills, English language competency, and the foundational skills needed to pursue career training or postsecondary education. Classes are completely free, making education and career advancement accessible to adults throughout the region.

North County AEL serves communities across St. Francois, Iron, Madison, Washington, and Ste. Genevieve counties. Classes are offered at convenient regional locations in Park Hills, Farmington, Fredericktown, Ironton, Leadwood, Potosi, and Ste. Genevieve. Daytime and evening options are available at select locations.

Individuals must generally be at least 17 years old and no longer enrolled in high school or homeschool. Prospective students are encouraged to contact the program to learn about enrollment, assessments, class schedules, and the location most convenient for them.
