Trombonist Michael Dease to Be Featured at "MAC Evening of Jazz"
Grammy Award-winning trombonist Michael Dease is the guest artist for Mineral Area College’s annual Evening of Jazz Concert.
The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, in the MAC Fine Arts Theatre. Admission for the concert is $5 for adults, $3 for students at the door. The concert will feature guest soloist Michael Dease along with the MAC Jazz Department, the MAC Jazz Ensemble and the MAC Kicks Band.
Dease is a sought-after and two-time Grammy Award-winning lead, section and bass trombonist with today’s leading jazz orchestras. His experiences include bands led by Christian McBride, Roy Hargrove, Nicholas Payton, Charles Tolliver and Rufus Reid. He’s also played with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band.
Dease has released seven albums as a leader: The Takeover (2005), Clarity (2007), Dease Bones (2008), Grace (2010), Coming Home (2013), Relentless (2014) and his most recent album, Decisions (2015).
Currently, Dease is assistant professor of jazz trombone at Michigan State University. He has also held similar positions at Queens College, CUNY, and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City.
