Theatre Guild to Present "Blithe Spirit"

Mineral Area College's Little Theatre Guild will present the ghostly comedy "Blithe Spirit" at 7 p.m. nightly, Oct. 8-10, at the MAC Fine Arts Theatre.
 
Admission is $3 for students and seniors, and $7 for adults. Tickets are available at the MAC Bookstore or at the door before the show, pending availability.
 
MAC Theatre Director Chuck Gallaher said the comedy has a mass appeal.
 
"Blithe Spirit is an often-revived smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages," he said. "It’s still very popular today because it can still keep an audience of any age in a state of tickled contentment."
 
It all begins when Charles Condomine, a successful novelist, arranges for an eccentric medium, Madame Arcati, to hold a séance at his house. At the séance, she inadvertently summons Charles's first wife, Elvira, who has been dead for seven years.
 
Only Charles can see or hear Elvira, and his second wife, Ruth, doesn’t believe Elvira’s ghostly presence exists until a floating vase is handed to her out of thin air.  Elvira attempts to disrupt Charles's current marriage, finally sabotaging his car in the hope of killing him so that he’ll join her in the spirit world, but it’s Ruth rather than Charles who drives off and is killed. When Ruth's ghost immediately comes back for revenge on Elvira, things get messy, and Charles has to start taking some drastic action.
