Park Hills to Unveil Memorial Bench Celebrating Leonard Henson’s Legacy as Uniting Force for Community
The City of Park Hills invites residents to a memorial bench dedication honoring Leonard Henson, the last Mayor of Flat River and first Mayor of Park Hills, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. outside City Hall (9 Bennett Street). The permanent installation faces the seat of local government that Henson helped establish, symbolizing his enduring connection to civic progress.
Henson, a Marine veteran and former banking executive, spearheaded initiatives like the Flat River bridge improvements and Phoenix Building revitalization during his tenure. His leadership bridged the transition from Flat River to Park Hills, blending pragmatic governance with a signature wit that disarmed political tensions.
The ceremony will feature remarks by current city officials, a bench unveiling with Henson’s family, and tributes from the Lions Club, an organization he championed for decades. A moment of silence will honor his military service before light refreshments are served.
“Leonard didn’t just build infrastructure, he built connections,” said Mayor Stacey Easter. “This bench ensures future leaders will reflect on how one person’s dedication can shape a city’s soul.”
The event will proceed rain or shine. No RSVP is required. For questions, contact the Digital Content Manager at (573) 431-3577 Ext. 37 or digitalcontentmanager@parkhillsmo.net.
