Saint Louis Symphony Ensemble to Perform at MAC
An ensemble from the world-renowned Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra will perform Oct. 12 as part of the Symphony’s community outreach program.
The concert, sponsored by Mineral Area Council on the Arts, will take place at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12, at Mineral Area College’s Fine Arts Theatre on the Park Hills campus. Admission is free, but tickets are required to ensure optimal seating. The free tickets are available at MAC’s Bookstore, (573) 518-2106.
Principal Trumpet Karin Bliznik will lead a quartet of musicians (David DeRiso on double bass, Adam Maness on piano and Shannon Wood on percussion) in a performance that includes Claude Bolling’s “Toot Suite,” a piece that will be familiar to anyone who is a fan of NPR’s Diane Rehm Show.
In addition to the evening’s performance, the group is scheduled to work with MAC music students during a special afternoon clinic. Musicians from the St. Louis Symphony have a long tradition of promoting accessibility to music in the greater St. Louis area through free chamber concerts and events. The upcoming performance and masterclasses were made possible through a unique combination of two symphony outreach programs, Symphony In Your Neighborhood and Symphony In Your College.
Arts Council Executive Director Danielle Basler said the council and the MAC music department are pleased to have been selected to host this group from the St. Louis Symphony through their community programs.
“We’re pleased for the opportunity to partner again with the St. Louis Symphony to bring an ensemble to our community,” Basler said. “The evening’s repertoire will have a broad appeal for our local audience and we hope many will take advantage of this chance to see a quartet of this caliber in an intimate, local setting.”
