The Mineral Area Council on the Arts K-12 Student Art Show is free and open to the public for viewing on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. An awards ceremony for ribbons and cash prizes will follow, sponsored by Mineral Area Council on the Arts. Judging is conducted by an independent art educator from outside the Parkland area.
The annual art show is a cooperative effort between the arts council and area art instructors who inspire Parkland students in public, private and home schools.
Instructors select the artwork from their students according to grade, and then according to media used. In 2014, the show featured 1,378 entries.
“The quality of work produced by our local students is always impressive,” said MACOA Executive Director Danielle Basler. “It’s a pleasure to be able to encourage developing artists through this show and we invite the community to come out to show their support by browsing through the expansive display on April 25th.”
Oils, water color, print-making, sculpture, photography are just a few of the media used. Past displays have included everything from a man made out of duct tape to an oil-painted self-portrait worthy of a professional gallery.
