MACFlix to Feature "The Naked Gun" Sept. 5
PARK HILLS, Mo. - Mineral Area College's student movie club, MACFlix, is offering a free viewing of the movie "The Naked Gun" (1988, PG-13) at 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 5. MACFlix movies are presented on the outdoor big-screen on the Park Hills campus quadrangle (the waterfall area). Viewers have only to bring their lawnchairs, blankets and snacks to enjoy the show.
The film, rated PG-13, features a bumbling police detective, Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen), who is given the security detail during the Queen of England's visit. But, oh no! An assassination plot is brewing! Will Drebin keep it together long enough and well enough to save the day and even avenge his partner's (played by O.J. Simpson) attack? Will he find and keep his true love (played by Priscilla Presley)? Will the Queen of England survive his security detail?
Dr. Kevin White, sponsor of MACFlix, said you have to pay attention or you'll miss half the gags in "The Naked Gun."
"It's a spoof in the style of 'Airplane!,' based on all of the cliches from cop movies and TV shows of the 1950s through the 1980s," he said. "There's a sight gag or play on words every 10 seconds through the whole movie!"
The remaining MACFlix Classic Film Series includes:
- Saturday, Sept. 12, 7:45 p.m., "War Games;"
- Saturday, Sept. 19, 7:30 p.m., "Roxanne;" and
- Saturday, Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m., "Time After Time."
All MACFlix movies are digitally re-mastered and presented with an high-quality projector/sound system in a theatre environment.
