Mineral Area Council on the Arts will once again be a part of the Arcadia Valley Mountain Music Festival at the Courthouse Square in Ironton on Sunday, Oct. 20.
The festival runs from Oct. 18-20 and features a parade, a fiddle contest, a variety of music, and fantastic food. More information on the entire festival can be found at www.mountainmusicfestival.net.
Mineral Area Council on the Arts will sponsor “An Afternoon of Civil War Music and Art” beginning at noon on Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Gazebo on the Iron County Courthouse Square. Julia and Justin Dill, The Pilot Knob Mountain Boys, and Mountain Faith will perform, and a 3D slideshow presentation of Civil War photography will be shown. The performances and events are free and open to the public.
At noon, husband-and-wife duo Justin and Julia Dill are back by popular demand this year. They’ll entertain with Civil War- era tunes in addition to bluegrass favorites. In addition, MACOA will open a 3D slideshow exhibit of Civil War photography.
Arts council director Danielle Basler said civil war buffs will be particularly interested in the exhibit.
“Surprisingly, a majority of the photography done during the Civil War-era was in stereo-graphic format and is best viewed in 3-d,” she said. “We’ll bring the glasses, everyone else just needs to bring themselves to enjoy this unique event.”
The Dills will be followed at 1:15 p.m. by the local trio, The Pilot Knob Mountain Boys, consisting of Morgan McAdams, Grant McAdams and Tyler Sappington. According to Basler, this group delights with their Civil War-era performances, including period-accurate dress.
The final musical performance of the day, at 2:30 p.m., will be by Mountain Faith, a bluegrass band out of North Carolina who will also play at the festival on Saturday.
“We’re incredibly lucky to live in an area so rich with beautiful scenery, rich history, and incredible musicians,” Basler said. “It’s going to be a fantastic fall afternoon, with a recipe like that.”
