Mineral Area College Theatre to Perform “Private Lives"
Mineral Area College’s Little Theatre Guild is getting ready to perform “Private Lives,” a romantic comedy that was revived in 2002 by the Royal National Theatre in a production that sparkled on Broadway.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and performances are at 7 p.m. nightly, Oct. 6-8, in the Fine Arts Theatre at the Park Hills Campus. Tickets are available at the MAC Bookstore or at the door on the night of the performances and are $7 general admission or $3 for MAC students and senior citizens.
“Private Lives” is said to be one of the most sophisticated, entertaining plays ever written. Elyot and Amanda, once married and now honeymooning with new spouses at the same hotel, meet by chance, reignite the old spark and impulsively elope. After days of being reunited, they again find their fiery romance alternating between passions of love and anger. Their aggrieved spouses appear and a roundelay of affiliations ensues as the women first stick together, then apart, and new partnerships are formed.
MAC Theatre Professor Chuck Gallaher said this is one of Noel Coward's best-known plays.
“This show is about the insanity of relationships, how we deal with them and the people in them. We all know this kind of couple,” he said. “We see them at parties and get-togethers and they just seem perfect for one another. Then one day you hear they’ve gotten a divorce and it all makes perfect sense.”
The cast list includes:
Elyot Chase-- Sam Gallaher, Farmington; Sibyl Chase-- Shelby Collins, Farmington; Victor Prynne-- Logan Willmore, Farmington; Amanda Prynne-- Kayla Redden, St. Louis; Louise-- Christon Hahn, Farmington.
For the Little Theatre Guild’s next performance, “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” which will be performed Nov. 30and Dec. 1-3, auditions will take place Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre at MAC in Park Hills. Roles are available for 5 men and 4 women. Please be prepared with a one-minute vocal audition. Bring a karaoke disc or sheet music for accompaniment (no lead vocals).
