Mineral Area College’s Community Singers and MAC Singers will present its Winter Choral Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at First Baptist Church in Farmington, 210 N. A Street.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Harry Cecil, the director of choirs at MAC, said this year’s Winter Choral Concert will be particularly interesting as it will feature a new Christmas cantata, What Sweeter Music by John Leavitt.
“We are really excited to be performing a masterwork in What Sweeter Music that only had its world premiere earlier this month at Carnegie Hall in New York. Now we get to premier this wonderful collection of Christmas carols to our awesome community right here in the Mineral Area,” he said. “The cantata will surely get everyone in a festive mood for the Holiday Season.”
In addition to performing the new cantata What Sweeter Music, there are other wonderful features in the Winter Choral Concert. Cecil said that MAC Choirs are opening the concert with John Rutter’s glorious Te Deum accompanied by the fanfare of a brass orchestra.
“Rutter’s Te Deum is rhythmically energetic and expressive. It’s a great way to start a concert,” he said.
The MAC Singers and Chamber Singers will also sing other, shorter choral pieces to reflect the wonder of the season. “Each smaller piece is different than the other, yet they all share themes depicting this festive Holiday Season,” Cecil said. “This Winter Choral Concert is certain to have something for everyone.”
