Grammy-Winning Saxophonist McNeill to Headline MAC Evening of Jazz
Mineral Area College is excited to announce that Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Chip McNeill will be the guest artist for the annual “Evening of Jazz” concert. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, in the MAC Fine Arts Theatre. Admission for the concert is $5 at the door for general seating. The concert will feature guest soloist McNeill, along with the MAC Jazz Ensemble and the MAC Kicks Band.
McNeill is a sought-after educator, composer, and saxophonist. He was formerly the musical director and jazz tenor saxophonist for Grammy Award-winning recording artist Arturo Sandoval, and he has recorded with Arturo on his CD “Americana” as well as the Grammy Award-winning release "Hot House.” Prior to Arturo Sandoval, McNeill was the musical director and jazz saxophonist for legendary jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson, and has also performed with Doc Severinsen, Nat Adderley, David Liebman, Duffy Jackson, Ira Sullivan, The Woody Herman Orchestra, Ted Shumate and Larry Willis. Currently McNeill holds the position of full professor and chairman of jazz studies at The University of Illinois.
