The Park Hills – Leadington Chamber of Commerce is pleased to share an upcoming professional development opportunity for healthcare providers in our region.
BJC Community Health Improvement (CHI) will present a virtual workshop titled “Counseling Patients on Secure Storage to Prevent Firearm Injury.” This educational session is designed to expand providers’ knowledge and build confidence in discussing firearm safety and secure storage with patients and their families.
The workshop will be delivered by Dr. Lindsey Clukies, MD, a WashU Medicine pediatric emergency medicine physician with St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The curriculum is based on research and commonly asked questions from healthcare professionals regarding firearm safety and storage counseling.

The epidemiology of gun violence in Missouri

Missouri laws surrounding firearm safety and storage counseling

Evidence-based talking points for discussing firearm access and secure storage with patients and families

An overview of secure storage devices

Resources to provide patients and families related to gun violence prevention and safe storage
This virtual training is free and open to healthcare providers. CME credits will be available at no cost for physicians.
