An ensemble from the world-renowned Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra will perform Oct. 6, as part of the Symphony’s community outreach.
The concert will take place at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 6, at Mineral Area College’s Fine Arts Theatre on the Park Hills Campus. Admission is free, but tickets are required in order to ensure optimal seating. The free tickets are available at MAC’s Bookstore, (573) 518-2106.
The audience will be treated to Hidas Frigyes' 1+5 Sextet for Bass Trombone and Wind Quintet. Also on the program is a new piece by composer Martin Kennedy for trombone and percussion.
Musicians who will perform are: Gerrard Pagano, bass trombone; Diana Haskell, clarinet and e flat clarinet; Andrew Cuneo, bassoon; Jennifer Nitchman, flute; Phil Ross, oboe; Thomas Jostlein, Horn; and William James, percussion.
In addition to the evening’s performance, the group is scheduled to work with MAC and local high school students during a special afternoon clinic. Musicians from the St. Louis Symphony have a long tradition of promoting accessibility to music in the greater St. Louis area through free chamber concerts and events. The upcoming performance and masterclasses were made possible through a unique combination of two symphony outreach programs, Symphony In Your Neighborhood and Symphony In Your College.
The arts council and the MAC music department are pleased to have been selected to host this group from the St. Louis Symphony through their community programs.
For more information, please contact MACOA Executive Director Danielle Basler, (573) 518-2125. Financial assistance the MACOA performing arts series is provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
“We hope area residents will take advantage of the unique opportunity to hear this ensemble perform locally,” Basler said. “The arts council has a history of bringing classical performances to the Parkland and we’re pleased to be once again presenting the work of the St. Louis Symphony to our community. In contrast to when we have hosted the full orchestra in the past, it’s exciting to be able to offer a much more intimate experience with these musicians with the added bonus of free admission.”
