Congratulations to Glenda & Will Straughn

As you may have read in the Ribbon Cutting announcement for Keenly Bridal & Prom, Special Memories and Elizabeth Hall have sold. Glenda & Will Straughn have owned the bridal store since it was established in 1989.

After 30 years they have sold the business to long-time employee, Jami Forney, and are retiring... at least partially. Will and Glenda both have indicated that they will "still be around" helping Jami as needed, at least for a little while.

Along with their 30 years in business, Special Memories has been strongly invested in the Chamber for all of those 30 years. Glenda has served on the board and served as president numerous times. She was instrumental in launching and directing the Chamber's Hump Day Barbecue for many years; she's served as our caterer for our Luncheons, Banquets, and Sweetheart Trivia Nights many, many times; she and Will have allowed the Chamber the use of Elizabeth Hall for all of the above-mentioned events, and Will has always taken so much pride in setting up so meticulously for each of those events.

On a more personal note, Glenda was a member of the Downtown Park Hills Association for many years, even serving as President when the Association was in the beginning stages of revitalization. She is a breast cancer survivor who has a dedication to serving the American Cancer Society and the Team Turner Relay for Life Team. She loves to cook; aside from catering events and weddings, Glenda is also known for the area's Famous Cajun Dinner and Christmas Cookie Trays to benefit Relay for Life.

Glenda has always been a woman on the go. It’s clear that sitting still has never been an easy task for her, and Will has always been supportive and helpful of her and all of her many endeavors... he may mumble his exhaustion under his breath occasionally, which is fair as even the youngest of us would probably have a hard time keeping up with Glenda and her forever giving heart, but it is easy to see that they truly are a team. A business could never survive successfully for 30 years, when run by a husband and wife, unless they truly were committed to each other and their business.

Glenda & Will, we congratulate you on your retirement, but more so, we Thank You for so many years and so much incredible dedication to our community, our residents, and our Chamber! You truly are a model example for small businesses and marital teams! May you both enjoy your retirement and all the blessings that come with it!!
