SUMMARY:Neighboring 101 Series for 2021
DESCRIPTION:We live in a smile and wave culture where neighbors do not know each other's names and seldom develop meaningful relationships. At the same time\, we have a national epidemic of loneliness\, we say we feel more isolated than ever\, and our communities suffer because residents are not engaged.\n\n\n\nResearch shows that developing relationships with our neighbors may provide a solution to these issues while also improving your own quality of life. Active neighboring also helps people\, organizations\, and communities to expand the participation and breadth of voices while respecting differences and embracing the diversity that makes communities vibrant places to live\, work\, and play.\n\n\n\nNeighboring takes effort\, purposeful planning\, initiative\, and time. In these monthly zoom classes\, we will look at the issue of neighboring by highlighting examples across the nation of where it is being done well. We discuss books on neighboring\, host expert guests\, learn from class participants\, and generally share all types of ideas that will get your skin crawling to do more neighboring! (It doesn't make if you are an extrovert or an introvert).\n\n\n\nSessions include interviews with thought leaders on neighboring and people and organizations nationwide that are leading the movement. Speakers and topics will be announced monthly. Join host MU Extension County Engagement Specialist David Burton for these live zoom presentations and question and answer sessions.\n\n\n\nThe class is free\, but registration is necessary to receive the zoom link for the class and the follow-up recordings. Monthly class reminders and follow-up messages with links to videos will only be shared with those who have registered.\n\n\n\nContact: David Burton\, burtond@missouri.edu\, 417-881-8909 \n\n\n\nPartners:\n\nGreene County Commission\n\nGreene County Extension Council\n\n\n\nSessions (12 pm - 1 pm)\n\n May 20\, 2021\n June 17\, 2021\n July 15\, 2021\n August 19\, 2021\n September 16\, 2021\n October 21\, 2021\n November 15\, 2021\n December 16\, 2021
