SUMMARY:Mineral Area Council on the Arts Presents the Voice Recital
DESCRIPTION:Mineral Area Council on the Arts will be presenting the voice recital of MAC Music Instructor Harry Cecil with MAC Adjunct Music Instructor Emily Parker on piano at 7 p.m. on Saturday\, Sept. 12\, at First Baptist Church\, 210 N. A Street in Farmington. Musicians from the award-winning Rosewood Ensemble of St. Louis will also perform. \n\n\n\nAdmission is $10 for adults and $5 for student and tickets are available at the Mineral Area College Bookstore or online at Eventbrite.com. The recital is sponsored in part by Mineral Area Council on the Arts and Missouri Arts Council\, a state agency.\n\n \n\nThis concert kicks off the Arts Council?s 2015-2016 Season. Local audiences may purchase a season ticket for $50\, which includes admission to this event\, plus three additional performances scheduled for 2016: a Zydeco Dancehall Concert on Jan. 22\, The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra on Feb. 11 and Broadway?s Next H!t Musical on April 2.The season ticket offers a savings over individual show purchases and the convenience of having tickets mailed directly to your home. For more information on the season ticket schedule or to purchase a ticket\, visit www.MineralAreaArts.org.\n\n \n\nArts Council Executive Director Danielle Basler said the recital is the first in a series of engaging cultural offerings in the upcoming months.\n\n \n\n?It?s exciting for us to open our arts season with local talent\,? she said. ?Many in our community have had the opportunity to hear Harry?s expertise as a director\, but have not had the chance to hear him perform\, himself. This will be an especially exciting recital for his students and Community Singers vocalists. Additionally\, we?re pleased to be featuring local pianist\, Emily Parker of the Arcadian Academy of Music. She performed at a solo recital a few years back and received rave reviews from a packed house. This is an opportunity to celebrate our local talent!?\n\n \n\nBasler said the concert has something for everyone. Song selections will cover many historical periods and multiple languages\, including German Lieder from Johannes Brahms and the famous ?Erlkönig? by Franz Schubert. Also included in this program are two song cycles\, featuring a French chanson set by Maurice Ravel. One of the highlights of the concert will be an aria written by George Frideric Handel\, accompanied by string musicians from the award-winning Rosewood Ensemble of St. Louis.\n\n \n\nCecil said\, along with the music of the fine art tradition\, he also prepared a more accessible repertoire. ?Included will be a set of spirituals and songs set the poetry of Langston Hughes\,? he said. ?And closing this great evening will be a collection of jazz and R&B tunes that are certain to have all music-goers entertained.?\n\n \n\nFor more information about the Voice Recital or the season ticket\, contact Danielle Basler\, (573)518-2125 or dbasler@MineralArea.edu. The Mineral Area Council on the Arts receives financial assistance from the Missouri Arts Council\, a state agency.
