DESCRIPTION:PARK HILLS\, Mo. As a make-up showing\, since it was canceled Aug. 22 due to foul weather\, Mineral Area College's student movie club\, MACFlix\, will present\, on Friday evening\, Sept. 18\, a free\, outdoor\, widescreen presentation of the cult comedy\, "Better Off Dead\," at 8 p.m.\n\n \n\nAdmission is free to everyone (just bring snacks and lawn chairs or lawn blankets). MACFlix presents all films in their original\, large\, widescreen format along with an outstanding sound system.\n\n \n\nDr. Kevin White\, sponsor of MACFlix\, said "Better Off Dead" is a 1980s comedy that's hard to describe. "Although\, the film is abundant in sight gags galore\, they're not in the same style as 'The Naked Gun\,' he said. "They are way out there and to some people's sense of humor\, incredibly hilarious.. There's dialogue to be sure\, and what's being said is worth cult status\, but you have to see this film to understand how the humor functions."\n\n \n\nThe movie stars John Cusack as Lane Meyers\, a geeky\, "loser" high school student whose girlfriend\, Beth\, dumps him in their senior year for the new captain of the ski team. Crushed by his loss\, Lane decides suicide is his only answer. His various pathetic attempts only end in embarrassing and hilarious failure\, and only make matters worse. On top of all this\, his father is harassing him about his life and his broken-down car. If that's not bad enough\, he's being stalked by a lunatic paperboy and his 10-year-old gifted brother is quickly becoming Hugh Hefner.\n\n\n\nObsessed with winning Beth back\, Lane challenges the new captain to a deadly ski race down K-12\, the most dangerous slope in California. Meanwhile\, the outcast neighbor across the street is offering housing to a beautiful French foreign exchange student who decides to help Lane get back on track. Can he get his car running again? Can he survive the paperboy stalker?
