SUMMARY:MAC Plans Annual Homecoming
DESCRIPTION:Mineral Area College is gearing up for Homecoming on Feb. 21. This year's homecoming celebrates MAC's 50th anniversary since it was created from the foundation of Flat River Junior College in 1965. The basketball games see men's and women's teams battling against archrival State Fair's Roadrunners. \n\n \n\nAlumni\, students and friends can follow Homecoming developments on the Mineral Area College Facebook page.\n\n \n\nHomecoming organizer Kevin Thurman said the event is a fantastic time for alumni to come to the community college\, enjoy great basketball match-ups\, and reminisce about their days at MAC or its predecessor\, Flat River Junior College.\n\n \n\n"With a half-century of tradition that we're celebrating this year\, we're looking forward to visiting with all of our present and former employees\, students and community stakeholders\," he said. "We want everyone to come out and be a part of this celebration."\n\n \n\nThurman said in addition to the athletic side of homecoming\, the performances\, games and activities should make for a fun evening for the entire family.\n\n \n\n"We'll have the MAC and Flat River Junior College yearbooks out as usual\, and a place for alumni to gather and chat\, and the halftime entertainment can't be beat\," he said. "And during halftime\, our own Redbird Revolution and cheerleading teams have come up with some amazing routines."\n\n \n\nThe evening begins when the MAC Bookstore and Alumni Room open at 4 p.m. Anyone needing MAC-wear in advance of the games can pick up a hoody\, sweatshirt\, tee-shirt or jacket in the MAC Bookstore\, which opens at 4 p.m. on Feb. 21. MAC's commemorative Homecoming T-shirts are on sale for $10 each in the Bookstore. \n\n \n\nFree shuttle service between the field house and campus parking lots will be provided.\n\n \n\nA free photo booth will also be available for everyone to enjoy getting photos taken with their friends.\n\n \n\nThe Lady Cardinals take on State Fair at 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults\, $2 for youths. Halftime entertainment will be offered by Redbird Revolution.\n\n \n\nBetween the games\, as the crowd packs the stands preparing to cheer their teams to victory in full\, Kirby the Cardinal will strut his stuff on the floor. Winners of the Most Spirited Award will be chosen and announced. A $50 gift card will go to first place.\n\n \n\nThen it's time for the men's basketball game against the State Fair Roadrunners at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults\, $2 for youths\, or free for those who already paid to attend the women's basketball game. During half-time\, MAC's cheerleaders will take the floor.\n\n \n\nBut it doesn't stop there after the game\, kids can join Kirby the Cardinal and Athletic Director Chad Mills on the gym floor to shoot some hoops like a MAC Cardinal.\n\n \n\nFor more information on Homecoming and other Mineral Area College Foundation events\, such as the golf tournament on May 14\, call Kevin Thurman\, (573) 518-2114 or kthurman@MineralArea.edu.
